Lise Seier Petersen: Statement

My practice is located at the intersection between material and art theory, and I often include fine art as a methodological concept. Many of my works are based on the materials’ own processes, in which the concept of time is a key focal point. The works are thus often temporary and their disintegration is often a visual and thematic focal point.

I trained as a ceramist at Aarhus Art Academy and under the potter, Knud Jensen (Sorring). I also hold an MA in Art History from the University of Copenhagen. My 2017 Master’s thesis was product-based, looking at the intersection between art theory and artistic practice.

Schematically, my work can be divided into three main areas, which, however, more or less come together in practice:

– My own works, which are often based on temporary materialisations of metaphysical concepts – time, for example
– Collective projects, which often thematise dialectical issues, and the curation of symposiums and exhibitions etc.
– Art theory, incorporating academic methods into studies, works and projects

(læs om smeltelerstykkerne her)

I am currently working on a practice-based, research-inspired study and analysis of the differentiation between applied and free art. (Read about the project here) Melting clay pieces feature as a practice-based element of the project. (Read about the melting clay pieces here)
